We are two weeks out from No Mercy, and in this week’s WWE RAW preview, we’ll see what loose ends the company’s flagship brand has to tie up as the big event gets closer. Last week saw Braun Strowman destroy Big Show (and as we now know, Show is undergoing hip surgery soon, so the cage match was a way to write him off television), Roman Reigns and John Cena continue their war of words, and Nia Jax set her sights on decimating RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss.
With all that, let’s take a down and dirty look at tonight’s show.
1. Bray & Bálor Are Still Going At It
Bray Wyatt just can’t seem to leave well enough alone. The Eater of Worlds fell victim to The Demon King at SummerSlam, but it looks like that ass-kicking wasn’t enough to get the point across to Wyatt. Now he wants a match against “Fozzy” Finn in his leather jacket. That’s all fine and good. The two will meet up at No Mercy, but hopefully we see more than some incoherent promos from the two before September 24th.
2. Braun On The Warpath
Braun Strowman continues his path of destruction on the way to his Universal Title match at No Mercy against Brock Lesnar. WWE is trying to keep any physicality between these two at a minimum, saving things for the match itself, so in the meantime, I guess we can expect Braun to keep on destroying random people for no reason whatsoever. As for Brock, all he’s going to do is let Paul Heyman talk for him and hop in place.
3. War Of Words
John Cena and Roman Reigns continue to add more tension to their upcoming No Mercy match, and even though I do not hate Roman like a lot of people do (I mean, I don’t really like him, either), this is not a good spot for him nor is it a good way to build him up for this match. He looks woefully outmatched by Cena on the mic, and that is doing nothing to raise him up in the eyes of the fans. I hope WWE has some master plan in place, because if they don’t and Reigns wins at No Mercy, the promotion may have a riot on their hands. What this feud needs is a good old fashioned brawl and pull-apart. That would server Reigns more than looking like a fool during a promo.
4. Women’s Division
Last week, we saw the set-up for the RAW Women’s Title Fatal Four Way match at No Mercy. Alexa Bliss will be defending her title against Nia Jax, Sasha Banks, and (shock of shocks) Emma. I hope to hell that WWE actually gives Emma some mic time and some time to really shine in the build up to this match and don’t treat her like an after thought like they’ve done since she’s returned from her back injury.
5. IC Title Picture
Last week saw Jeff Hardy fail at his attempt to win the Intercontinental Title from The Miz, so WWE is going to have to find the A-Lister a new challenger in short order. They really can’t have two PPVs in a row where that title is not defended. But, please, don’t let it be Jason Jordan. So far, this experiment has flopped worse than a dying fish out of water, and there has to be a better opponent for Miz than him.
RAW airs on The USA Network at 8:00 pm EDT tonight, and we will have a full recap as soon as the show is in the books.
