Eva Marie has spoken out about her WWE suspension. According to her, she was suspended on a minor paperwork technicality over a legitimate prescription medication. In a brief statement given to Pro Wrestling Sheet, she says:
“I am disappointed that this suspension has occurred, yet understand and respect that WWE upholds their Wellness Policy to the letter and won’t compromise on its integrity.
“I violated policy by not turning in portions of required paperwork in the time frame WWE Medical deemed timely. I look forward to my return! Thank you for your support.”
As we reported yesterday, she was suspended for 30 days for an undisclosed Wellness Policy violation. Her suspension came on the heels of WWE suspending Paige and Alberto Del Rio. These suspensions were the first for all three WWE stars.
TMZ is reporting that Adderall is the culprit in Eva failing a drug test, and that the Total Divas star claims she has a prescription for the medication. They also say she will be appealing her suspension. Before TMZ and Pro Wrestling Sheet reported this news, TopRopePress.com’s Ryan Droste had said on yesterday’s Top Rope Nation podcast that he had heard from sources that Adderall was the reason for the suspension (listen to that show here).
I realize that WWE wants to appear as if they are taking their Wellness Policy seriously, but if they are suspending people over a paperwork snafu, that seems just a tad bit ridiculous. They won’t even test Brock Lesnar, who failed two USADA drug tests, but they will suspend someone for turning in some paperwork late.
If I didn’t know better, I’d think WWE was doing this so that Eva Marie would have something else to add to her SmackDown storyline of not being able to actually get in the ring and wrestle….
