We are only two weeks and some change from WrestleKingdom 12, and the Road To Tokyo Dome began today. We already know that Tana is injured (arthritis and fluid in his knee that he hopes rest will fix enough to have his match with Jay White). Kenny has been bloodied by Jericho. And, Naito is pissed about the wording of the show’s main events.

But, before we get to The Dome, we have to travel down the road to get there first.

NJPW Road To Tokyo Dome Results

Syota Umino defeated Tetsuhiro Yagi.

Yagi worked Umino’s bad leg most of the match, but other than that, it was a regular Young Lion match. A lot of back and forth offense, with Umino submitting Yagi to the Boston Crab.

Katsuya Kitamura defeated Ren Narita.

Narita attacked before the bell, which was a good idea with Monster Young Lion…otherwise, Kitamura would have eaten him as a pre-match snack. Something about Kitamura bothers me, and I can’t put my finger on it. But, he bugs the hell out of me. Decent match with Narita showing a lot of fight, but Kitamura squashed him in the end (almost literally).

3rd Match 15 Minutes Limit
Kotetsu Yamamoto Memorial 11th Young Lion Cup Tournament
Hirai Kawato defeated Tomoyuki Oka.

Kawato is my favorite Young Lion. He has the fire that the others don’t, and he’s not afraid to go out there and put his body on the line during a match.

Plus, I still think Oka is an Undercover Uncle. In a surprising move, Oka went for a Boston Crab and Kawato rolled him up for the pin and the win. Yay, River People!!!

TAKA Michinoku, El Desperado, & Yoshinobu Kanemaru defeated Henare, Tiger Mask, & Jushin “Thunder”Liger

The best parts of this match were Liger and Despy; I could have done without everyone else. Kanemaru bores me, Henare is just meh, and TAKA and Tiger Mask are just there (can y’all tell I’m a shitty mood yet?). The match was pretty good, but I just couldn’t get into it. Liger drank some of Kanemaru’s whiskey, accidently spit it in Tiger Mask’s face, and allowed Despy to get the pin and win.

Kota Ibushi & Togi Makabe defeated Leo Tonga & Yujiro Takahashi.

Well, at least Ibushi is here…the only good thing in this match. Pretty good match, though. Ibushi and Yujiro had some good interactions, and Leo and Makabe were like two bulls trying to outmatch each other. Ibushi hit his Kamigoye on Leo for the pin and win.

Toru Yano, Hirooki Goto, & Tomohiro Ishii defeated Taichi, Takashi Iizuka, & Minoru Sukuzi.

MiSu came out with his clippers so I guess the hair vs NEVER Title is on for WrestleKingdom 12.

Iizuka tried to eat Ishii, and that damn Taichi was back. Plus, watching Yano and Iizuka go at it is always entertaining. Then Goto and MiSu were back to beating the hell out of each other, and this turned into a really entertaining match. I have a feeling Goto and his ego are going to cost him; he wouldn’t tag out often and wanted to prove that he could beat SZKG alone. It doesn’t work that way, but he did get the pin and win on Tachi with the ushigoroshi and GTR.

Masked Horse (we are guessing Taguchi), KUSHIDA defeated Satoshi Kojima vs Roppongi 3K & Rocky Romero.

And, of course, Masked Horse was Taguchi. This was just weird. The Horse team, not the RPG team.

The match was good…but weird. Sho and Yo get better with each outing, and it’s obvious Rocky is helping them out greatly. Masked Horse/Taguchi was just ridiculous, and Cozy and KUSHIDA suffered for it. But, Cozy pulled out the win with the Western Lariat on Rocky.

NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Title
GoD & Bad Luck Fale defeated BUSHI, EVIL, & SANADA

I fully expect the LIJ team to lose the title tonight, especially with SANADA and EVIL winning WTL and going on to WrestleKingdom 12 to face KES for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Titles.

Of course, I was worried about BUSHI’s survival, considering he took the brunt of the punishment for the first 10 minutes of the match before SANADA tagged in. Turned into a good, if chaotic match, with Bullet Club winning after Fale pinned BUSHI.

YOSHI-HASHI & Kazuchika Okada defeated Hiromu Takahashi & Tetsuya Naito.

Okada and Naito seem to get a bit more vicious each time they are in the ring together; I like it. Tacos and Hiromu were basically there as ballast for this one, as it was all about Naito and Okada.

They got their shots in, but the focus was on the champion and his challenger. But, the punishment to Tacos’ knee just seemed to piss Okada off. So, when he got in the ring, he showed no mercy to Naito…or vice versa. Really good tag match from these four with Okada submitting Hiromu with the Cobra Clutch/body scissors. After the match, Naito and Okada beat the hell out of each other some more.
